One of the most common questions you get asked once you have gotten engaged is, “Have you picked a date?”. To be completely honest, it became the most annoying question ever. The excitement of becoming engaged slowly turns into an overwhelming feeling when you realize all of the planning that has to go into it.
When my husband and I first got engaged, he was 7,000 miles away and stationed in a time-zone that was 15 hours ahead of me. Planning had to be done at odd hours of the day and at very small amounts at a time. We took two years to plan our wedding. Most people make a face when we tell them that, but for us, it was what we wanted.
My dream wedding was not what comes to mind for most brides. I didn’t want a bunch of people, a tall, extravagant cake, or my husband to perform a cheesy dance for me with his groomsmen. We wholeheartedly wanted a wedding that surrounded us with our closest friends and family, good music, and delicious food.
The best advice I could give to any couple planning their wedding is to be true to yourself on what you want for your big day. So many times we were encouraged to do this or that due to prices or reasonability. In the end, it’s your one and only day to celebrate your marriage in the way that you want to. Another aspect that can make or break a wedding is your vendors. Lucky for us, we had a vendors (coordinator, DJ, photographer, florists, bakery, caterer, and makeup artist) who made my dream wedding absolutely come true. They not only helped with the planning process, but they were simply just amazing people to be around. They made every moment of our wedding one to remember. And the best part about it was that I was stress free the entire time. Having vendors that care about what you want and who are there to help you can truly be the difference between a bridezilla and a bride who enjoys every second of such a special day that flies by way too quickly.
For all of the lovely brides getting married in 2019 (or 2020 if you’re a planner like me) I hope your day is everything you have ever dreamed of! Hold onto every single moment of your wedding day before it flashes by!
